Engineering Highlights & Projects
Throughout my career in software development and electronics, bridging
digital technology with physical hardware was always a recurring
passion.
Embedded Control & Microcontrollers
One notable example combining software engineering with electronics
was the design and implementation of the control logic for the
GB3OV UHF Repeater. Utilising Microchip PIC
microcontrollers, I engineered dedicated custom firmware for repeater
timing, ident generation, CTCSS management, and fail-safe watchdog
protection. This embedded controller operated reliably in continuous
service for more than two decades.
Digital Communications & DSP
Long before modern consumer software caught up, I actively worked with
early digital communications protocols and soundcard DSP modulations
(PSK31, digital contest exchanges, amateur packet radio). Combining RF
engineering with signal processing provided a practical proving ground
for low-latency communications.
Management & Multi-disciplinary Programmes
Bringing hardware engineers, firmware developers, and application
programmers into coherent development cycles requires speaking the
language of every discipline. Having designed circuits from transistor
and logic level up to high-level application architectures allowed me
to lead development projects with both technical depth and strategic
clarity.
Retirement Status
I am now fully retired from professional practice and no longer
accept commercial or consulting engagements. I continue to enjoy
amateur radio experimentation, digital signal processing, and
personal technology tinkering.
